TD-1 29er rigid Ti prototypes
This is a Ragley project to design a different sort of endurance (24hr) race bike. Twinklydave who has been riding for “me” for a while now only ever runs rigid forks, so I figured a rigid only bike would make sense.
Lynskey made these samples – we’re planning alloy and titanium versions. Maybe steel too for the more recreational version (steel is a bit heavy to be competitive in the weight stakes for a race bike, but nice for trail riding of course).
We are testing 2 head angles on these samples. Front one has 72deg, back one has 70deg. The front one works with a 440mm short rake fork, the back one, with a longer raked fork. We’ll see.
Adjustable wheelbase with very long bolts. That needs sorting. Might make adjustment slot shorter for production as I don’t think anyone needs that much adjustment. Bet someone copies this before I get chance.
Dropouts come with SS option.
Three finger chainstay plate is a good idea for 29ers and protects against chainsuck in muddy races.
Lynskey slot out behind the back of the downtube to save weight.
The BB is also slotted and drilled.
Massive downtube ovalised to support BB area.
Having a cuddle.

will you PX against an “Other” Ti29?
🙂
Looks good.
Nice detail with the drilling and slots.
You could always supply the frame with a collection of tensioner bolts – 20mm, 30mm, 40mm etc. Its just a standard M5 thread isnt it. Is it OK to use steel bolts in a Ti or Al dropout? I assume so.

Does that mean you want ‘out’ of yours?
Stoner 1:31 pm on August 6, 2009 | #
nope 🙂 just joking.
for me to want to move over it would need to be able to run both 470mm rigid and 500mm (120mm) sus fork, come with rohloff and normal vertical drop outs, and a big bag of sweeties. 😉

Beautiful…where do I sign up 🙂
With these ‘paragon style’ dropouts, why do they place the bolts so close together – surely increasing the spacing would better resist drive and braking torque?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Happily those dropouts are cut out of ti billet, and I’ve got a few ideas on changes for production.

470mm rigid AND 120mm suspension fork. Not sure how that’s going to work.

Mark Lynskey has just mailed me:-
The dropouts on your frame have enough travel to properly tension a belt
drive system. Our standard version has a slot that is about 13mm shorter.
Since this was a prototype I chose to put the longer ones as it gives you
more to play around with.
The stop bolt length is also shorter on the standard version slider.
Saw the question on the bolts being so close together. If you make them
farther apart you will lose the travel necessary to tension the belt.
There is an optional aluminum slider pc for Rolhoff use as well

“470mm rigid AND 120mm suspension fork.”
that’s your problem, not mine, you’re the designer 🙂
Where does mark put the split in the dropout to install the belt?

I’d go for the option of short and long stop bolts and keep the total adjustment length. But that’s just my HO!

Strangely enough the dropouts look very similar to my Lynskey Ridgeline SS. They do work very well indeed although I had wondered why they were sooo long.
Brant, did you have a hand in designing the Ridgeline?

Cool stuff…
But what about steel 29-er?
Cheers!
I.

aye – once we sign the geometry off, we’ll have frames in several materials.

I have had a little go on one of these and tbh i was amazed on how good it felt, it’s also easy to clean that Ti stuff LOL
I fancy a Ti BMX now, fancy designing one?

Can you tell us what size seat post these frames will take? Thanks, Im looking forward to the final product!

Any update on these Brant?
