Ragley Blue Pig with the welds still hot

Just in, first shots of our chromoly frame, with our factory burning the midnight oil. Off to SGS now for CEN testing. Gusset under downtube and externally butted top tube, with the transfer gusset taking some of the pressure off the downtube joint alone, reinforcing the headtube so it doesn’t bend – that’s the theory!

Chunky front end. Looks like it should take some punishment.

Things are looking really good so far Brant. Looks like my planned 456 build may wait a while……
Now do I go for Steel or Titanium?!!
shedfire 11:16 am on April 14, 2009 | #
There’s an alloy one coming too Dan. Just to confuse things further.

Thanks for the “head’s up”, an alloy frame usually wouldn’t be my first choice (especially after buying a Ti road frame), but to dismiss it straight off wouldn’t be fair.

When is the single speed specific frame gonna show up?
shedfire 7:45 pm on April 14, 2009 | #
We have no SS specific frames planned.

Re Bolt on cable guides on topside of chain stay
Is there not a danger that you’re going to get a water ingress issue with the left chain stay from the “bolt on” fixings? Maybe not and issue for Ti but maybe for Steel?

Frame will come with blanking bolts.
Red 4:58 pm on April 15, 2009 | #
My experience with rack mount fixings on seat stays has shown that water gets still gets past blanking bolts unless the threads are sealed with threadlock or alternatively you could use nylon washers to form a seal.

How do you know the water got in that way?

Ran my bike as a commuting bike during the week & MTB at the weekends. In commuting mode I bolted on a rack and at weekends I removed the rack. On several occasions (after commuting in the rain) when removing the rack a small amount water of came out of lower fixing points when the bolts were removed.
However on refection my hypothesis doesn’t necessary ring true. If my hypothesis was right about capping openings in a frame we’d all be plagued by water ingress from bottle cage mounts etc. I haven’t experienced problems from these. So maybe the issue I’ve had is specific to my frame or simply poor installation of the rack!
